How do you find duplicate files in a large OneDrive account?

WilliamsWelsh
I have been trying to clean up a OneDrive account that has accumulated files from several computers over a long period. The same documents, photos, videos, and other files are often stored in different folders because of repeated uploads and synchronization. With hundreds of folders, manually checking every location is not really practical.

I am looking for a way to scan OneDrive for duplicate files and review the results before removing anything. I would prefer a solution that can compare files based on their actual content rather than relying only on filenames, because some copies have been renamed or moved into different directories.

One tool I recently came across is SysInfo OneDrive Duplicate File Finder. It has a Scan All Folders option that appears useful for finding duplicates when they are spread throughout the account. It supports several file categories, including documents, images, videos, audio files, archives, and other supported data.

The Smart Grouping option also caught my attention. It can organize detected duplicates using information such as file name, size, content, and file type. For a large account, grouping the results this way should make it easier to compare files and decide which copies are unnecessary.

I would also want to preview files before deleting them. A filename match alone is not enough for me because two files with similar names may contain different information. Being able to inspect the detected duplicates first seems like an important safety feature.

Another consideration is whether the same tool can be used with both OneDrive Personal and OneDrive Business. For business accounts, the Assign Impersonation feature may be useful for administrators handling duplicate data across multiple users.

For the actual cleanup, I prefer an option that moves selected duplicates to the OneDrive Bin rather than permanently deleting them immediately. That provides some protection if the wrong copy is selected. An Auto Delete option could be useful after the results have already been reviewed.
