I’ve been wondering how people usually connect before a cruise these days and whether it actually improves the experience once you’re onboard.
For a long time, cruising felt simple — you arrived, checked in, boarded, and met people naturally during the trip. Conversations happened at dinner, around the ship, or during activities. That spontaneity was part of the fun.
But now it seems like more travelers are connecting before departure. Some people like sharing plans, discussing excursions, exchanging tips, or simply getting familiar with who else will be onboard. Others prefer to keep everything open and let the experience happen naturally.
I’m especially curious about people who travel solo or cruise regularly. Does meeting people beforehand make the first day easier? Does it lead to better friendships and activities during the trip, or does it remove some of the excitement of meeting people organically?
For those who do connect before sailing, what’s your preferred way to do it?
